“FOR THE LAST TIME, the answer is no. We’re not fire witches, I can’t call on a spirit. Specifically, one as powerful as Fenrir. Even Garm would be too much for me. What you’re asking is putting my mate too much at risk.” Alex’s mate snarled, putting herself between himself and Vivienne.

Being confused would be an understatement. Alex thought they stayed after because Marie, Luke and their mom needed time to think up a plan of attack. Not because Viv already had one in mind. Apparently, this was a worst case scenario idea according to Marie. Alex needed to see it from a different perspective.

One which wasn’t so close to the situation at hand. His baby sister had a point. Not only did his niece and nephew need to be protected, but a whole community relied on this working. Saying no wasn’t an option at this point. At least, in Alex’s mind, it wasn’t.

“What exactly are we talking about here? I’m lost on who you two are even talking about?” Stepping forward, Alex put himself between the two women in a standoff.

“She wants me to do a summoning,” Marie stressed the word she and pointed at her mom as if he didn’t know who Marie meant. “And not just any summoning, nooo. Beckon the demon wolf himself and use you as the medium because you’re a lupine.”

“Demon wolf?” Alex’s stomach lodged in his throat. Turning to Vivienne, he asked, “Is she exaggerating?” Goddess, he didn’t need a demon wolf summoned.

The wolf inside him was already a dark, bloodthirsty beast. Nobody knew because Alex kept him on a tight fucking leash. The only times he couldn’t control the wolf was when he’d drank himself under the table. Hence, the main reason he’d quit. Not to mention, Alex turned into a belligerent asshole.

“No, she’s not. Fenrir is a savage wolf chained up because our gods and goddesses feared him so much. He even took the hand of Tyr, a war god and master swordsman. When Ragnarök descends upon us, Fenrir is prophesied to devour Odin whole. But, I’ve gotta say I think he’ll go for Tyr first.” A god killing, ferocious wolf...just fucking fantastic.

While his human side understood the risks, his wolf was all for it. The animal side wanted more power, he wanted to make up for losing his alpha title. “And Garm?” Hopefully, this spirit wouldn’t be so hellbent on destruction. Marie had taught him enough of her beliefs that he recognized the name Odin.

Also, he’d read comic books as a kid. Although, they didn’t do justice to how his mate described the gods and goddesses. The way Marie put it, the spirits weren’t dead, but living in another plane of existence. It was strange and unrealistic thinking to Alex, but he wouldn’t ridicule his mate’s history. If she believed it, then who was he to question her?

Shifter history said they all came from a Mother Goddess. Had no one ever realized if it was true, it meant all shifters
